Atkins was in the media again because of new study results point to lower cholesterol. I went to the Atkins book yet again with an open mind, and decided to try the diet. I took the contrarian viewpoint to the current position of the AMA low fat diet, which seemed to be producing a society of increasing obesity. Atkins view of sugar as the culprit making you fat, not fat, sensible and the extra work of all proteins in the kidney. . . it is benign. I wanted to use his diet as a tool for myself completely from all the sugar. I started the high protein, low carb aspect of the diet. As I review the animal protein in my diet I could feel the cold even more and finally stopped. I also noticed my stomach muscles start to open and swell again. The cold of winter was not as painful as it was, but my vegan diet. Then I have the courage to begin to gain fat in my diet, including bacon, egg yolk, cream, cheese, cream, cream, even bacon rinds. On a daily basis, I admire the eating of those “forbidden foods” only to wake up the next day too thin, slim. I could not believe that this result! I was loving eating all these foods so familiar yet banished since. . . childhood I was in full swing eating the high fat, high protein, low carb diet at the time the photos on my website were taken. www.
